About Nadine Winters

Nadine has 10 years of experience working in the Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor’s office, first as special assistant and then as chief of staff. She was also appointed to the FNSB Assembly and was subsequently elected to two terms.

While on the Assembly, Nadine worked extensively on military issues and sponsored the ordinance that created the Interior Gas Utility. She served as Presiding Officer for two years and as Finance Committee Chair and Legislative Liaison for three years.

In addition to her borough experience, Nadine worked for two different governors.  For the last ten years she has worked on a variety of projects, including writing multiple business plans for rural utilities and health clinics, feasibility studies for energy projects and analyses of the impact of a gas line on affected municipalities.

The Issues That Matter Most

Education

Quality education is a top priority for Nadine. The borough’s financial support of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is critical. While on the Assembly, Nadine supported the school district’s funding requests. As your mayor, she promises to continue to work for full-funding of K-12 education.

Energy

While on the Assembly, Nadine sponsored the ordinance that created the Interior Gas Utility; the purpose was to create a utility whose sole purpose is to provide low cost energy to the residents and businesses of the Fairbanks North Star Borough.  Low cost reliable energy remains an issue today as oil prices slowly creep up.

Air Quality

The borough must find a community solution to its air quality issues.  Efforts should focus on helping residents’ burn wood responsibly and cleanly while cleaning up the air.  Solutions need to be economically feasible for individual residents and the community as a whole.

Facility Maintenance

The borough has been setting aside funds in the facility maintenance reserve fund for years, however, it has not kept pace with the needs.  The longer facility maintenance needs go unmet, the more costly they are likely to get.  Concentrated efforts to put funds aside are necessary, as well as exploring other solutions.

From Nadine

I have been working within or alongside state and local governments since the 1980s. I have extensive experience with business planning. I have designed large government projects, served two terms on the assembly and served under state governors and borough mayors. Additionally, I have been on numerous boards, including serving as a trustee of the Rasmuson Foundation.

My experience demonstrates I am not afraid to tackle tough issues and create sustainable solutions for our community. I promise to support full-funding for education, work towards a solution to our air quality issue and support our military and economic development opportunities.

I would appreciate your support on October 2nd.
